Out-of-School Suspensions

State: Wisconsin
Measurement Period: 2022-2023
This indicator shows students who served suspensions at a different location other than school.

Why is this important?

Out-of-School Suspensions are defined as a temporary exclusion from school and activities whereby the student is not allowed to enter school property. Suspensions and Expulsions are the most severe consequences a school can impose upon a student for unacceptable behavior. There are many implications associated with suspending students, some of which include lower academic performance, higher dropout rates, failure to graduate on time, and risk of future disciplinary action. Furthermore, according to the U.S. Department of Education, studies have shown that students with disabilities and students of color are suspended and expelled at higher rates than their peers.
